Gambit in Marvel Rivals finally drops on November 14, and if you thought he was just showing up to toss a few cards and flirt with Rogue, think again. The King of Cards is here, and he’s so busted that you will more than remember his name — shoutout to X-Men ’97 for putting this man back in the spotlight like a legend.

Who Is Gambit? (Comic Fast Facts)
Before Gambit in Marvel Rivals was melting lobbies, he was melting comic pages. Gambit — real name Remy Etienne LeBeau — debuted in Uncanny X-Men Annual #14 (1990), created by Chris Claremont and Mike Collins. His mutation lets him charge objects with explosive kinetic energy, and he throws playing cards because they’re light, precise, and just dramatic enough to be petty.
He wasn’t a hero at first. Gambit worked with the Thieves Guild, made deals with villains, and helped assemble the Marauders, who later massacred the Morlocks. When the X-Men found out, they almost sent him to the Shadow Realm permanently. But he saved Rogue — and half the team — more than once, eventually earning his slot in the lineup.
Marvel later powered him up into Death, Horseman of Apocalypse. His abilities skyrocketed, his personality darkened, and fans learned what happens when Remy stops pretending to behave.

Gambit’s Gameplay in Marvel Rivals (Season 5 Breakdown)
Here’s why Gambit in Marvel Rivals is about to terrorize the meta.
Gambit is a 275 HP Strategist, but don’t let the word “support” fool you. He heals, he DPSes, he anti-heals, he cleanses, he peels, he explodes, and he moves like a fighting-game character trapped in a shooter. What a durag nation.
✅ Primary Attack — Exploding Card Spread
- Throws three cards
- They explode on impact
- Damage enemies
- Heal allies
- 21 ammo
A healer with aim? Terrifying.
✅ Card Resource — Hearts vs. Spades
Gambit in Marvel Rivals uses a four-card resource like Phoenix, Angela, and Daredevil, letting him flip between two modes:
Hearts Mode
- Burst heal
- Passive regen
- AoE team saves
- Cleanse debuffs
Spades Mode
- Damage spikes
- Exploding card waves
- Launches enemies
- Anti-heal status effect
He can swap from healer to assassin mid-fight.
✅ Right-Click — Staff Slam (2 Charges)
AOE burst heal + AOE damage.
If someone dives him thinking he’s free lunch, he deletes their confidence instantly.
✅ Shift — Double Dash
Two movement charges, animation cancels, flank routes, and high-ground mobility. Support players with actual mechanics are about to eat.
✅ Cleanse, Anti-Heal, Knock-Up
- Raise removes debuffs — including Doctor Strange’s ultimate
- Flush in Spades mode launches enemies and reloads ammo
- Anti-heal debuff paints enemy bars blue and shuts down sustain comps
At this point Gambit in Marvel Rivals looks like three heroes duct-taped together.
✅ Ultimate — High Caliber
Choose a teammate and give them:
- Cleanse
- Passive regen
- Healing boost
- Speed boost
- Jump boost
- Exploding kinetic attacks
Punisher with High Caliber jumps higher than Michael Jordan and turns into a walking battlefield hazard.
Is Gambit S-Tier?
Unless the devs panic-nerf him, Gambit in Marvel Rivals is absolutely S-tier.
He has survivability like Mantis, utility like Dagger, cleanse power like Strange, anti-heal like Blade, and the damage of a mid-range DPS. He doesn’t “fit into” a comp — he is the comp.
