The GTA 6 pre-order everyone has been waiting for is almost here, and Black gamers have more reason than anyone to be first in line.
GTA 6 Pre-Orders Drop Monday.
Black Gamers Should Be First in Line.
A leaked Best Buy email just confirmed what the culture already knew was coming. Here is what the GTA 6 pre-order drop means and why Black gamers have more reason than anyone to care.
GTA has always been more than a game for Black gamers. It was the music. The characters. The streets that felt familiar even when they were fictional. And now GTA 6 is six months away from landing on your PS5. A leaked Best Buy email just told us pre-orders open this Monday, May 18th. Before you click that button, let’s talk about what this moment actually means.
This Franchise Was Built on Black Culture
Let us go back to 2004. Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas dropped and it changed everything. You were Carl Johnson. CJ. A Black man from the hood fighting to survive in a world that was stacked against him. The story touched on crooked cops, gang life, and the grind to build something real. That was not an accident.
Rockstar did not just write that world from scratch. They brought in real people who lived it. DJ Pooh took the developers around Los Angeles to meet real people from the streets. Samuel L. Jackson voiced a corrupt police officer so real it felt like a news story. The radio stations played Tupac, Eric B. and Rakim, and Public Enemy. Walking through Los Santos felt like watching a hood film that let you hold the controller.
“Hip hop has always provided a public voice for Black people living on the margins. GTA San Andreas understood that from day one.”
The cultural connection between GTA and Black America runs over 20 years deepThen GTA V gave us Franklin Clinton. The radio played Kendrick Lamar. The pattern is clear. This franchise has always known who was in the room. Black gamers were not just playing GTA. They were a big reason why it became the biggest franchise in gaming history.
GTA 6 Characters Are Rooted in Our World
GTA 6 is set in Vice City. That is a fictional version of Miami. And Miami is one of the most culturally Black cities in America. Rockstar is not treating that lightly this time around.
Meet Boobie Ike. He is a Black Vice City legend who turned street life into a real estate empire, a strip club, and a recording studio. That description sounds less like a video game character and more like the intro to a BET documentary. His motto is all about heart. He is built to be one of the most memorable figures in the whole game.
Then there is Dre’Quan Priest, an aspiring music mogul running a hip hop label called Only Raw Records. The label’s rap duo Real Dimez already has the internet buzzing. Fans online quickly spotted that Real Dimez looks like a parody of the City Girls. If JT and Yung Miami have a fictional Vice City cousin, that means the culture is showing up in a real way inside this game.
Rockstar brought Dr. Dre into GTA Online in 2021 for The Contract DLC. That was a genuine cultural moment. GTA 6 has even more Black cultural DNA baked into the main story this time. That is not small.
The game also features Lucia Caminos and Jason Duval as the two main playable characters. Jason is the kind of guy who grew up around grifters and could never quite escape that world. Lucia just got out of prison and she is done playing small. Their story sounds like it was pulled straight from the culture GTA has always reflected.

Get Your Lore Con TicketsThe Best Buy Leak Explained
Here is exactly what happened. Best Buy sends promotional emails to affiliate partners through a platform called Impact. That platform lets content creators earn money when their audience buys things through special links. Multiple creators reported getting the same email this week.
The email listed a campaign called “GTA 6 Pre Order (Physical Game).” The promotional window runs from May 18th to May 21st. The affiliate commission listed is 5%. YouTuber Frogboyx1Gaming went live and showed the email on stream. Other creators confirmed they got the same message. Then Insider Gaming independently verified that the emails came from a real Best Buy affiliate campaign.
Now here is why people believe it. Take-Two Interactive has an earnings call on May 21st. That is the same day the affiliate campaign closes. Rockstar has a documented habit of dropping major news right before Take-Two earnings calls. GTA 6 Trailer 2 dropped just days before a Take-Two report in May 2025. The timing lines up too well to ignore.
Fans are also buzzing that Trailer 3 could drop on May 18th at the same moment pre-orders go live. The official Rockstar website briefly went offline earlier this month. That kind of thing usually means something is being updated. Add it all together and Monday is looking like a very big day.
What PS5 Players Need to Know Before Monday
GTA 6 launches on PS5 and Xbox Series X on November 19th, 2026. That is roughly six months away. If pre-orders open Monday, this is one of the biggest gaming moments of the decade. Here is what to keep in mind before you spend a single dollar.
The price is expected to land between $70 and $80. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has spoken in several recent interviews about where AAA game pricing is heading. Earlier rumors about a $100 price tag have mostly cooled down. But nothing is official until Rockstar says so.
Fake GTA 6 pre-order pages are already circulating online. Do not put your card into any site that is not PlayStation Store, Best Buy, or another major verified retailer. Wait for Rockstar to make it official before you click anything.
Sony has also been sending messages to PlayStation 4 owners telling them to upgrade to a PS5. That is not a coincidence. Sony knows what is coming and they want their user base ready. If you have been waiting for a reason to grab a PS5, this is the one. The most anticipated game of the decade does not come around twice.
When the pre-order goes live, look for information on whether Rockstar will offer special or collector’s editions. GTA V launched with multiple tiers back in 2013. Expect the same kind of structure this time. The collector’s edition could run well over $150. Standard physical copy is the safe bet if you just want to lock in your spot.
Black gamers built the cultural foundation that made GTA the biggest franchise in gaming. Vice City is calling. Monday is the day to answer.
