In a major win for representation, Angel Reese gets her own WNBA Edition cover (a GameStop exclusive in the U.S.). Reese’s rising profile and outspoken presence make her a perfect fit for the W’s growing impact on 2K.

Superstar Edition — Carmelo Anthony

For the collectors, the Superstar Edition rocks none other than Carmelo Anthony. Hoodie Melo, Olympic Melo, Hall of Fame Melo—however you know him, this cover feels like a tribute to his legendary career and a nod to the 2K generation that grew up watching him light it up.

Not gonna lie, this might be the strongest trio of covers in years.

Gameplay Changes — AKA The Stuff They’re Hyping

NBA 2K26 is rolling out their ProPLAY Motion Engine 2.0, which uses real NBA footage to drive animations. Translation: less skating across the floor, more actual foot plants and cuts. Shooting also gets “Enhanced Rhythm Shooting,” meaning your shot timing and tempo supposedly matter more. Add in new dream shakes, skyhooks, and better post play, and—on paper—this sounds like the most skill-based 2K in a while.

They also claim gameplay is 10% faster and every shot now follows a “green or miss” principle. So yeah, no more random full whites dropping.

NBA 2K26 City & Modes

The City: Completely redesigned, with 60 FPS performance, seasonal parks (including throwback 2K16 vibes), crew battles, leaderboards, even “Street Kings” boss fights. Basically NBA meets Elden Ring.
MyNBA/MyGM: 30 unique storylines, faster sims, online playoffs, banners for flexing.
MyPLAYER Builder: New glossaries to preview animations, scouting reports before committing to builds, badge perks, and Cap Breakers.
MyTEAM: WNBA players join the mode—so now you can run a lineup of Angel Reese, Carmelo Anthony, and Jokic if you’re into that chaos.

What They’re Not Talking About

Here’s where the silence gets loud:

The Cost to Max Out a Player: In 2K25, it cost around 375,000 VC (~$100 real money) to hit 99 OVR. Rumors suggest 2K26 might slash that to $20–25, but let’s be real—does 2K sound like a company that cuts prices? Exactly.
Badge Progression Grind: They’ve teased Badge Accelerators, Perks, Rebirth, and Cap Breakers, but no hard numbers on how many games or drills it takes to move a badge from Bronze to Hall of Fame. Until then, expect the grind to be just as sweaty as ever.
Cap Breakers and Specialization Unlocks: These are game-changers for builds, but nobody knows how many hours of Park, Rec, or MyCAREER it’ll take to get there.

Basically, 2K has told us what looks sexy, but left out the one thing players actually want to know: how much time and money will this cost me?

The Verdict (For Now)

NBA 2K26 is shaping up to be the most ambitious entry in years. The cover stars hit, gameplay looks like it’s finally leaning into skill over RNG, and the modes seem more than just copy-paste. But until 2K drops the cold, hard numbers on VC costs and badge grinds, we’re left to wonder if this is real change—or just another year of paying for the illusion of progress.

So yeah, it might be the best 2K in a long time. Or it might just be the best sales pitch.
