Fans. Literally, nothing happens in life without love and support. That’s what fans offer—mostly. Nowadays, it seems like we, the fans, offer way more than just words of encouragement. We can offer words and takes that can make even the strongest of fans or new fans walk away from the fandom in disgust. Yes, I’m looking at you, Star Wars fans.

“I just care so passionately about insert TV show/movie based on a comic book and want it to be perfect. Is that a crime?”
No, not at all. That’s perfectly legal, actually. But let me ask you a question: What in life is perfect? Nothing. Nothing is perfect, so why should your nerdom movies and shows be? Just because you love them more than anything in the whole world?
The Impact of Toxic Fan Behavior on Creators
As of 2022, there are 7.951 billion people on Earth just doing their best. A small percentage of those are writers, directors, and producers who busted their asses to make it where they are today. And they have feelings. They have doubts, anxiety, and second guesses, but they do their best.
Is this cartoon show really terrible, or is it just not how you wanted it to go? After you answer that question, ask yourself the next one: Does this actor or actress deserve disgusting comments and harmful threats from you and the rest of the keyboard warriors because they were just doing their job and providing for themselves and their families?

Now, am I saying you can’t complain? No, of course not! Things get better because of the criticism creators receive, but let’s maybe make it constructive criticism rather than pure, vulgar fan venom. We want to create a utopia for current fans and new fans so we can build up our already strong foundations.
